2018 Scholarship Awards

On May 21, 2018, Woman’s Club of St. Matthews held a reception for the scholarship recipients, their parents and other close family members. All 5 recipients were able to attend. It was a treat to meet the students and interact with them over refreshments.

The WCSM Awarded $3,200 scholarships to each of the following. 

Brian Knapp – Ballard High School. Brian had a grade point average of 4.4 and an ACT score of 35. He plans to study mechanical engineering at Vanderbilt University.

Sada Rice – Sacred Heart Academy. Sada has found her passion in the medical field – specifically regenerative medicine and will continue her studies at Colorado College.

John “Jack” Wolfram – Trinity High School. Jack has struggled with severe ADHD, however, he complete high school with a 4.0 grade point average and a 34 on the ACT. He will continue his studies at Emory University.

Farah Al Ezzi  –  Waggener High School. Farah was on the honor roll and maintained a 4.0 grade point average throughout high school. She wishes to pursue a career in medicine, beginning at Jefferson Community and Technical College and advancing to the University of Louisville.

Arshi Chopra – The Walden School. Arshi scored 33 on the ACT and maintained a 4.56 grade point average. She will pursuit of a career in medical research at the University of Louisville.

Honoree Olivia Marcum – The Walden School.  Olivia was selected to receive the 2018 scholarship from the WCSM for a Walden School student. However, She has been accepted to the Browns Fellows Program at Centre which is fully paid. Therefore, she graciously forfeited her scholarship so another Walden School student could be selected. 

As a condition of their scholarship, we ask that each student communicate with us periodically throughout the year to let us know how they are progressing. 

We are very proud of this year’s recipients and look forward to hearing from each of them throughout the 2018 -2019 school year.
