WCSM Health & Wellness Program

The WCSM Health & Wellness chairman arranged for the Kentuckiana Stroke Assoc to present an informative program on Strokes.  Thirty-five members gathered at the St Matthews City Hall for the program. Since our region of the country is part of the Stroke Belt, this was a very timely topic for us.

The main presentation was given by Jessica Sumner Director Clinical Effectiveness and Stroke, of Norton Healthcare. Her visual presentation helped us to understand the brain and how stroke can affect it.

The corresponding description of how to recognize signs of stroke and how to respond were very clear.  Jessica’s emphasis on the importance of recognition and speed of response made us very aware of what we need to do.

Jill Phillips, the Executive Director of Kentuckiana Stroke Association, was also present.  She provided information on how this organization supports victims of stroke, as well as making public appearances to spread the word regarding stroke awareness.
