KORE Gallery

The Arts and Culture Chair arranged for a field trip to KORE Gallery at 942 East Kentucky Street.  This was also our Christmas Party. Don Cartwright (Owner/Manager/Artist) told the members that after he retired and moved back to Louisville, he talked to other artists who said they were unable to sell their art to the public. After managing a smaller gallery for a few years, on March 1, 2012 he opened the new contemporary gallery on Kentucky Street.  KORE Gallery represents over 70+ artists and continually grows in size.

The gallery’s mission statement:

“Our mission is to provide affordable original art from emerging and established local artists, and provide a “connection” for collectors of affordable art while giving back to the community.  KORE Gallery frequently partners with local non-profits and foundations to assist in fund raising charitable events.”

Be sure to stop at the gallery to see all of the work they have on hand—they change out their gallery walls monthly with new works.

Also present was a representative from STITCH (Sewing Together in the Caring Highlands) which is based at the Highlands Presbyterian Church.  STITCH welcomes women from nations around the world and of many faith traditions to participate in a women’s sewing program. These women are offered the opportunity to learn the basics of sewing. STITCH is focused on empowering women in a safe environment of support and encouragement as they establish relationships with the warm and caring volunteers.

Many of the wares made by the refugees were available for sale.  For more information on STITCH visit their Website at www.hpclouisville.org/stitch.

The Arts and Culture Chair along with her committee put together a delicious lunch for the members.  After lunch Don Cartwright welcomed everyone and talked about the Gallery.  Joy Lait, Ann Kleim and Lesley Rohner discussed their skills and items on display.
